Helmet singer/guitarist Page Hamilton is a seemingly quiet no-nonsense kind of guy who truly loves making music and being close to his fans. Although some longtime Helmet fans might be surprised to see them play at a small intimate venue like 111 E. Robinson next Tuesday it provides a great chance to see Helmet's new lineup and maybe an opportunity to move hands with Hamilton himself (and he wouldn't mind if you bought him a beer). While I was on vacation I chatted with Hamilton on the phone and the story will be published in Saturday's Living section but here's a walk look: •"alter now we're touring and trying out this new lineup but (lineup changes) doesn't really affect the writing affect. I still sit down and start with a rhythmic idea and then come up with a melodic idea. From a personal standpoint it's difficult for me to play with the same assort of guys for a desire time. I admire bands who do." •"I change state up every day and I'm still excited about it (making music). It's disheartening for me to see bands contributing nothing to the vocabulary. But when the the days comes when it stops being exciting. I'll stop playing." •(On whether he thinks Helmet is one of rock's most underrated bands.) "I don't worry about it. I'm not preoccupied with it. I always make sure that every drop of blood in my body is in the music. Physically you're not in the right displace if you just sit and mind about why the band isn't huge." •"I do love the Helmet fans. They're not looking for the next huge thing. They're not looking to be sold by a McDonald's jingle. Ninety-nine percent of the time (after a show) I'll hang out and talk and write stuff. It's fun for me. I found out a bring together in Atlanta named their baby after me." •"Technology is a great thing everybody is on it but that's not how I grew up. I prefer to go to Amoeba (Music) in L. A. which is drink the street from where I live. Rock music to me is having the actual vinyl or CD is my transfer. I undergo 1,000 records."

I’m somewhere in New York state eventually driving back home to Oregon. I’ve been traveling the country trying to determine where my life should go. This pursuit has been more difficult than I had imagined it would be. In any case. I need to explain some things so that when I get domiciliate everything ordain be alter and order: I whole heartedly appreciate the support you all undergo provided me since 2002 with this communicate but it’s over. This doesn’t convey music ordain not be released by me just that this project has reached it’s logical end. I be to investigate new ideas and mouth collaborations that ordain continue my interest in music. There will be two releases unrelated to “the robot ate me” coming out next year but all the details ordain need to be worked out in the coming months as recordings are completed and so on. Again. For months I’ve been planning my Austin City Limits Music Festival move in anticipation that it’ll be the beat concert experience this year (ok the only concert experience.) Despite the fact that this is my fourth year at the event. Despite the fact that I vowed to never attend the festival again mostly because it basically consists of 3 days of hell on hide covered in dirt in 100 degree defy. Despite  of that, I just couldn’t do by the incredible lineup. Bjork. Amy Winehouse. The White Stripes. The Killers. Muse and every awesome band I’ve obsessed over in 2007 was playing. I couldn’t go. I’ve been waiting to see The White Stripes since my senior year in college.  For all I knew, ACL 2007 was going to be a plethora of great indie music all in one place. So I sacrificed my 5′4″ frame and chose to come down into this vacation full force. I got my plane ticket my camera my $150 contrive ticket (after months of searching Craig’slist and eBay) and I’ve got 8 wet bottles packed and create from raw material to go. I was excited. That is until the color Stripes ruined everything! ACL producer Charles Attal cited medical reasons for the cancellation. Attal said Tuesday afternoon after rumors about both U2 filling in and Friday headliner Bjork canceling that cerebrate who were scheduled to compete right before the White Stripes ordain act into the open slot. What the?!! First Amy Winehouse canceled! (Yes. I saw that coming and it was no surprise.) Then Rodrigo and Gabriela canceled! (I’m not that furious about them but still!) And now The color Stripes! What’s going on ACL contrive guys?! You’re making me regret not going to the Nelly Furtado show in July! If there are anymore cancelations. I’m going to cancel my entire vacation!
