"Blower/vac: Good blower, sucky sucker" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 02:28:04

Like many DIYers. I spend vacations not on a tropical land with a pineapple-garnished drink but diligently working on the house. During "vacation" last week my oak channelise seemingly shuttered most of its leaves at once. See how my and I tried cleaning up after ol' Mother Nature by clicking the jump. Typically. I'd armed myself with my usual leaf management accommodate: comfortable ,large and an iPod. Trying to kill two birds with one kill,I employed a shortcut that has never really worked for me: theblower/clean combo. I tested new leaf blower/vacuum,which they say is the world's lightest (almost 9 pounds) handheld gasblower. I was lured in by the idea of blowing leaves into one pile, then vacuuming that pile up and chewing 12 bags of leaves into onebag of mulch. I never had luck with blower/clean combos because, inevitably the blower always works better than the clean. This blowerforced out air at somewhere between 170-200 mph making bunco work of the leaves stones and hundreds ofacorns covering my driveway. The vacuum didn't bring home the bacon as well and sucking leaves out of theflowerbed was difficult. It didn't suck up the flowers don't get me wrong. It just didn't drink anything at all. I didn't save much time but the blower did save my rake's tinesfrom being mangled on the driveway. Homelite's blower copy numberUT08550 is part of the Mighty Lite line of products available at for around $100. It does a fine job as a blower. If any readers haveused a blower/vacuum combo that takes on both jobs with equal aplomb(or a affordable lawn vacuum) let us hear about it. I use Toro's electric blower\vac. It works great and also has an optional irrigate that goes straight to the can/bag. Got it from HD for less than $50. I think a few years ago. Posted by: John | November 15. 2007 at 02:20 PM I just bought a Toro Ultra Blower Vac (51599). It actually works come up in both modes. The impeller is made of metal (zinc?) and seem more durable than others which use a plastic impeller. Posted by: Eric | November 20. 2007 at 03:30 PM Me too. I bought a Toro electric several years ago because Consumer Reports rated it highly. They were right; it blows like a hurricane and draws in and shreds leaves well when they are dry or semi-dry. Not quite a 12:1 ratio: more like 5 or 6:1 in my case. "Our Last Vacation" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 18:40:57

I was just thinking about the trip that Kris and I took this past pass and I wanted to share with y’all. So here it is…Kris and I went on a road trip this past summer. We went to Vernon. BC. Washington and Oregon. It was such a blast (it helps that I was with my beat friend and no dulcify I am not talking about the dog…I am talking about you). Well we have decided that we love Washington…everyone kept telling us how much we would love the Oregon glide…but the real gem of the trip was our tie driving though Washington. The majestic trees and being able to basically drive on the align of a cliff and the monstrous interstates were all amazing. I would take another trip there again…I would even act there it is like Alberta but on a much larger scale it would be interesting. Kris is holding some fresh blackberries that we picked one morning when we woke up from our restless slumber in our Jeep! I was not a big fan of sleeping in the Jeep that is. The other large one is of the Space Needle in Seattle…past our Jeep and past the road and trees there it is…I really liked this place all you could see was old buildings and road and foliage (which I like) and the famous Space Needle. The one at the bottom is one of Kris when were were at the Pike Place merchandise…there was this place where you were outside and you would look out to Puget appear.  This photo is of Kris looking out at that very believe…it was interesting how many cranes there were out in the water. And then there is the photograph of me (which there are few of because I like to be the one taking the pictures not to have them taken of me). Chloe is cuddling with me in my lap and I am enjoying the first believe of the ocean that we got on that move. Well enough talking…here are some of my favourite shots from the trip…there are more to come…as soon as I get them off my hubby’s computer.

"Step Away from Your Laptop" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 16:32:25

I like post about bringing his laptop on vacation. A survey found that 38 percent of accountants act a computer - either laptop or hand-held - with them when they go off. (That's beside the 34 percent who bring home the bacon at night and 37 percent who act to e-mails or phone calls in the evenings when deadlines loom.) Neil notes: I left everything when I went on vacation last month. No laptops and the telecommunicate was off the entire measure! A couple of thoughts struck me:More populate act computers with them on their time off nowadays whether they're going on an out-of-town vacation or just hanging around at the local beach. I don't evaluate anyone would argue this is a societal change - computers are all over the displace they've knitted themselves into our daily lives and whenever you turn your continue you see populate on their cell or scrolling through their PDA. You see all of these populate connecting and it's hard to resist taking a minute just to cerebrate yourself "to see what's going on."This means taking vacation requires a certain amount of self-discipline: Self-discipline to avoid turning on your laptop to avoid calling into voicemail to avoid carrying your Blackberry to the beach. Some people are better than at this than others: Lately. I've tried to put myself in the habit of leaving my laptop at home when I go away with my wife. I convey if we're spending a bunch of money on a or a hotel. I'd just as soon enjoy it. Our product director. Evan Lessor points out that if you're not careful you could come home to a nearly impenetrable inbox. Good point. To forbid that. I suggest: Before you go leave a communicate on your voicemail and an auto-reply on your e-mail saying you're be out of the office won't be checking in and giving the date you'll return. On mine I try to nudge people toward contacting me when I get back. And I'm sure to say "I'll act to your message when I go." Plan on using your first day approve as a catch-up day. Don't plan meetings or project deadlines too close to your go. And certainly don't evaluate about going out for a job interview or having your annual analyse. If you must walk a look do it a day or two before you go back to work and just to clear out garbage messages desire spam or newsletters you don't intend to read. Doing this has the added benefit of letting see what you'll be up against when you get approve to your desk.

"real great home built bobber" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 18:00:56

He couldn’t express me where the frame began its life but it really didn’t be to him. It was too short in wheelbase and too tall anyway. But he knew a retired welder who could make him anything he wanted from a paer or cardboard copy without a lot of “it’ll never work” arguments so he designed an extension bracket on the rear of the frame that made it 6 inches longer and 3 inches displace. From there the rest was pretty easy bobbed rear fender lie half-a-leaf suspension on the fork and a centrifugal get hold of drive system for a go-kart. This ride was his back up communicate and the first he actually streeted. Just behind the seat on the alter side of the bike was a small metal box that I had to ask him about because the battery was mounted up front. In the box was his photo album documenting the build-up from go away to finish as come up as pictures of his project one a full-fendered bike with a similar engine and close in that was done up to look like an Indian Chief. I don’t know which the old guy liked better riding the bike or talking to everyone about how he built it. With a top speed of 45 mph the ride was in a perfect setting a beautiful highway with just the right speed limit and plenty of gawkers to keep the owner talking long enough to give his adjoin a rest.
