Like many DIYers. I spend vacations not on a tropical land with a pineapple-garnished drink but diligently working on the house.
During "vacation" last week my oak channelise seemingly shuttered most of its leaves at once.
See how my and I tried cleaning up after ol' Mother Nature by clicking the jump.
Typically. I'd armed myself with my usual leaf management accommodate: comfortable ,large and an iPod. Trying to kill two birds with one kill,I employed a shortcut that has never really worked for me: theblower/clean combo.
I tested new leaf blower/vacuum,which they say is the world's lightest (almost 9 pounds) handheld gasblower. I was lured in by the idea of blowing leaves into one pile, then vacuuming that pile up and chewing 12 bags of leaves into onebag of mulch.
I never had luck with blower/clean combos because, inevitably the blower always works better than the clean. This blowerforced out air at somewhere between 170-200 mph making bunco work of the leaves stones and hundreds ofacorns covering my driveway.
The vacuum didn't bring home the bacon as well and sucking leaves out of theflowerbed was difficult. It didn't suck up the flowers don't get me wrong. It just didn't drink anything at all.
I didn't save much time but the blower did save my rake's tinesfrom being mangled on the driveway. Homelite's blower copy numberUT08550 is part of the Mighty Lite line of products available at for around $100.
It does a fine job as a blower. If any readers haveused a blower/vacuum combo that takes on both jobs with equal aplomb(or a affordable lawn vacuum) let us hear about it.
I use Toro's electric blower\vac. It works great and also has an optional irrigate that goes straight to the can/bag. Got it from HD for less than $50. I think a few years ago.

I just bought a Toro Ultra Blower Vac (51599). It actually works come up in both modes. The impeller is made of metal (zinc?) and seem more durable than others which use a plastic impeller.

Me too. I bought a Toro electric several years ago because Consumer Reports rated it highly. They were right; it blows like a hurricane and draws in and shreds leaves well when they are dry or semi-dry. Not quite a 12:1 ratio: more like 5 or 6:1 in my case.
