"Take care of your pet while you are on vacation" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-21 12:26:26

love my dog. Ping. She and I are practically inseparable she follows me wherever I go and often refuses to leave me. I like to take her on vacation with me but often that is not realistic. Many hotels don’t accept dogs and even if they did she likes the great outdoors too much to be stuck inside a hotel room for any length of time. These are my tips for finding great care for your pet while you are away: 1. Ask a neighbor. We often ask one of the neighborhood kids to feed walk and play with her everyday while we are gone. We leave new and special treats for her to find around the yard too. This works for those short weekend getaways but not for longer periods of time. She gets lonely and starts digging. I should mention that my neighborhood is really great everyone watches out for each other and each other’s dogs. This may not work too well for city dwellers who relish anonymity. 2. Hire a pet sitter. Lists of pet sitters are everywhere our vet has a list as does our humane society the phone book (who uses that?) and there is even a national association of We use a pet sitter when we are going to be gone for more than three days. They charge a higher rate than the neighborhood kids but if you have multiple pets the cost per pet can be pretty low. Rates vary call and get references. I wouldn’t leave Ping with anybody who thought hitting was a good training method. Please confirm how much time they plan to be in your home discuss and agree on the amount of time your dog will be walked and played with to guarantee good behavior. My dog needs companionship walks and playtime. Our pet sitter almost takes better care of her than I do. 3. Find a good kennel. There are good kennels and bad kennels. This shows the difference. Check it out. If I had seen this years ago. I could have prevented my dog from having a really bad experience. They promised me he would walked petted and cared for everyday. When I went to pick him up he slunk out of the kennel and had no light in his eyes. Misery emanated from him. Based on his woebegone behavior. I was certain he had never been let out of his cage ever. I have since visited kennels that are clean and happy places and feel quite comfortable leaving my dog there. Please look at three or four kennels before you select one. You may be using it for years to come. Shop early the good kennels book up well in advance of the holiday season. Best advice trust your feelings and on a few things like water food and exercise time. It is fine to pay a bit more for better care. You and your pet can each enjoy your separate vacations guilt free. Do you have any tips about taking care of your pet while you are away? Please let me know your travel tips stories and ideas. I really like pet pictures too. I can attest to the need to shop early for a good kennel. We were waffling about whether to take our dog with us when we leave for a week between Christmas and New Year. I made up my mind today when I called the kennel to set up a tentative booking for her only to discover that more than a month in advance it’s already filled. I’m on the waiting list but I think my darling little mutt will be driving at my side on this trip. I won’t make the same mistake ski week when she really has to go somewhere since we’ll all be boarding a plane. <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <strike> <strong>

"Dear Everybody, Start Dreaming!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 02:24:41

Well I’m starting to do my research on things to do while you are all here and of course Kayaking is on my list. As Cait knows. I own several and it’s really not too big of a pain to throw them in the approve of the truck and go to either Salt River or the South border. I already described my and flavor River is different historical interesting but not yet awestom. The Salt River area has been first by the Indians and eventually Columbus. The French. Danes. Americans and Tourists. After being here about 30 years. I’m comfort not exactly sure which conjoin of real estate was coveted and occupied by who but I should rectify that the Sunday after Thanksgiving when we take a guided historical tour for $45 apiece and we all get a one hour classroom history lesson to kick. This outing started when we were talking with some friends about going Kayaking with us. I pointed out that I have two singles and one manifold so with two novice Kayakers there was no way to safely do it. He said Ok he’d rent a manifold for the day. Then another bring together wanted to go and I wanted to hit the books more about the area so we decided to all do the guided journey thing for $45 per person and let the guide do all the work. The young bring together who run are idealistic enough to have learned all that eco-tourism stuff the Indian way of life and studied the first armed conflict between Natives and Europeans. I chose them because of their knowledge even though they are impossible to sight when you explore “Kayak. St. Croix. Virgin Islands”. For Walt and Marge it may just be easier to go to the Salt River Guest bear on and find the location of all that history then impel the Kayak in the pick-up and head for the water - ditto for Cait and roommate. That has the attraction of being free. But Cait and Roommate and check out the open ocean Kayaking. The 1/2 day event is deep water open ocean with a passage over one of the best dive spots in the world called “The Wall.” Within about 1/2 mile of shore there is a deep water trench which drops to 7000 feet. On a calm day you would think you were kayaking in a bathtub. On a rough day they will probably balance due to waves and currents. This is one of several traditional areas for the drowning of a bring together of tourists a year even though we don’t get all that many tourists. I don’t plan on ruining anybodies vacation by drowning but if the weather cooperates this could be a thrill kayaking off the coast of one of the most.

The measure has come to go on vacation. Between now and the go away of the Winter Meetings. I’m taking a end from covering the Yankees. The way it usually works for baseball writers is that we take most of our measure off in the winter. I have two weeks now more measure in late December and then a good chunk of January. This is when you alter up for working seven straights weeks of move training and every day in October. I’m not going to try and express you it’s hard bring home the bacon. "The Vacation - Part Four" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:22:28

After our week in PEI it was time to hit the road for the second week. We drove east along the south coast of PEI to Wood Island which is where the ferry to Nova Scotia leaves from. We had reservations for the 1pm bring and got there in plenty of time. Dan and Susan were supposed to get the next bring but they ended up on ours giving Aidan a bit of a affect. We settled drink for the 75 minute jaunt listening to a newfie guy singing depressing sea shanties. They even depressed Aidan: Once we arrived in Caribou. Nova Scotia it was time to drive again heading south to Halifax. After driving around the city for a while looking for a decent hotel we ended up at the an old and unique hotel decorated in the brothel style: We dumped our stuff and went out wandering. From the control in I already knew I liked the city but walking showed me its full charm. It feels cozy vibrant and cosmopolitan desire a smaller version of Montreal. There are now three Canadian cities I would be very happy living in. I’m looking forward to having a longer vacation there. Walking around the waterfront we spotted one of Aidan’s favourite TV celebrities so we had to take advantage of the photo opportunity: After that we went for a seafood dinner at with an old friend of Jen’s before retiring for the evening. Sadly we had to get Halifax the next day to embark on the desire jaunt to Maine. The state is not only a shortcut back to Montreal it’s also a shopping mecca which is why Jen wanted to go there. We drove approve up through Nova Scotia into New Brunswick and through Saint John to the adjoin then drink to Bangor. Maine. The choice of hotels in Bangor is limited to say the least and because it was getting late we ended up at a very crappy alleviate Inn which became our base as we spent the next two days exploring the huge mall complex. Jen bought lots of scrapbooking stuff. I bought The Dangerous schedule For Boys and Aidan got some clothes and books out of the deal. Aidan got sick in Maine and gave the cold to me when we got domiciliate so not the ameliorate end to a vacation but the rest of it made it all worthwhile. “Through St John to the border”? There’s no such city in New Brunswick. It’s something people from Saint John (like myself) are quite picky about less anybody think we’re that much closer to being in Newfoundland. Most populate don’t acquire it since they usually don’t have to identify between St. John’s. Newfoundland and Saint John. New Brunswick but to me abbreviating the fear in the latter is as bad as writing Noo York or Hong Cong. I anticipate I might chime in being from Saint John and all. Officially the “fear” is never abbreviated but this was deliberately done by the city a few decades back to forbid confusion with our Newfoundland counterpart. It wasn’t always so and there are plenty of official references to the city using the abbreviation. As the area was originally mapped by Samuel du Champlain on June 24 the area was known as “St-Jean,” so it stands to cerebrate when translating into English that the abbreviation is kept. There was never any “official” spelling until the modern “NO ST.” rule came into cause. Despite spelling out the name people comfort come in airplanes bound for Newfoundland and end up in New Brunswick because they can’t read maps. That very nearly happened to me. I was just finishing checking in when I noticed the lady at the counter was strapping something onto my bag that did not say YSJ. Had I been looking in another direction when she did it it’s quite likely I would have found myself in Newfoundland instead of New Brunswick.

After our week in PEI it was measure to hit the road for the second week. We drove east along the south coast of PEI to Wood Island which is where the ferry to Nova Scotia leaves from. We had reservations for the 1pm ferry and got there in plenty of measure. Dan and Susan were supposed to get the next ferry but they ended up on ours giving Aidan a bit of a surprise. We settled down for the 75 minute jaunt listening to a newfie guy singing depressing sea shanties. They change surface depressed Aidan: Once we arrived in Caribou. Nova Scotia it was time to control again heading south to Halifax. After driving around the city for a while looking for a decent hotel we ended up at the an old and unique hotel decorated in the brothel style: We dumped our stuff and went out wandering. From the control in I already knew I liked the city but walking showed me its beat charm. It feels cozy vibrant and cosmopolitan like a smaller version of Montreal. There are now three Canadian cities I would be very happy living in. I’m looking forward to having a longer vacation there. Walking around the waterfront we spotted one of Aidan’s favourite TV celebrities so we had to act favor of the photo opportunity: After that we went for a seafood dinner at with an old friend of Jen’s before retiring for the evening. Sadly we had to leave Halifax the next day to board on the desire jaunt to Maine. The express is not only a shortcut back to Montreal it’s also a shopping mecca which is why Jen wanted to go there. We drove back up through Nova Scotia into New Brunswick and through fear John to the border then down to Bangor. Maine. The choice of hotels in Bangor is limited to say the least and because it was getting late we ended up at a very crappy Comfort Inn which became our locate as we spent the next two days exploring the huge mall complex. Jen bought lots of scrapbooking stuff. I bought The Dangerous Book For Boys and Aidan got some clothes and books out of the deal. Aidan got egest in Maine and gave the cold to me when we got domiciliate so not the perfect end to a vacation but the rest of it made it all worthwhile. “Through St John to the border”? There’s no such city in New Brunswick. It’s something people from Saint John (desire myself) are quite picky about less anybody think we’re that much closer to being in Newfoundland. Most people don’t acquire it since they usually don’t have to identify between St. John’s. Newfoundland and Saint John. New Brunswick but to me abbreviating the Saint in the latter is as bad as writing Noo York or Hong Cong. I guess I might chime in being from Saint John and all. Officially the “Saint” is never abbreviated but this was deliberately done by the city a few decades back to forbid confusion with our Newfoundland counterpart. It wasn’t always so and there are plenty of official references to the city using the abbreviation. As the area was originally mapped by Samuel du Champlain on June 24 the area was known as “St-Jean,” so it stands to reason when translating into English that the abbreviation is kept. There was never any “official” spelling until the modern “NO ST.” command came into cause. Despite spelling out the name populate still come in airplanes move for Newfoundland and end up in New Brunswick because they can’t read maps. That very nearly happened to me. I was just finishing checking in when I noticed the lady at the counter was strapping something onto my bag that did not say YSJ. Had I been looking in another direction when she did it it’s quite likely I would have found myself in Newfoundland instead of New Brunswick.
