"Chongqing journal: A riverboat cruise on the Yangzi" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 02:28:20

Is there anything better than sitting on a bus for eight hours???? Well maybe but it was our transportation to get from Emei to Chongqing where we would come in our river ride for three days down the Yangzi river. Although there were plenty of stops and options for tours off of the ride we chose the relaxed route and spent our entire first day lazing on the boat. The beat move about being on the Intrepid tour is getting off the beaten path and this is one example. You did not sight us on the usual luxurious cruise ride with a bunch of foreign tourists as you would sight in the states but rather a modest river boat where we were the only western tourists on board (barring two other western couples). The highlight of our first evening was in the lounge where we watched and some participated in a cut game where you gambled for beers (or pijiu as it’s called) – did I have in mind that the Chinese love to gamble?? The lounge was packed and the Chinese were all cheering everytime someone from our group participated – very welcoming. Then there was the moment where a portion of our group did karaoke with the song Pretty Woman – now that’s entertainment. We also tried to play a Chinese delay game called Mah jong which is sort of like rummy but with tiles but we decided to get it for another day when we had english instructions! As for the river itself there are some very stunning parts along the way – with the three gorges and all. You can also see where the towns are being rebuilt as over 1 million people undergo already been or will be relocated as the river rises with the dam. Our local command says it is tougher for the older people to be moved but he as a younger man thinks it is great to have a new place. The river was originally 60 meters or so deep and that level about doubled in 2003 and by 2009 will have risen to a height of 175 meters. You can see markers along the way showing what ordain be the eventual height of the river. Tidbit of the day: The Yangzi river is the third longest river in the world (after the Nile and the Amazon). Construction of the dam began in 1993 and is scheduled to be completed in 2009. It will provide around 10% of the power for all of China. Doesn’t seem like much on a percentage basis but when you see the massive numbers of China’s population and see the be of coal being used along the way you see that in shear magnitude that will alter a good difference.

"Preview of UMTS-communicator HTC Touch Cruise" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:09:03

Announced just recently mobile-review have already posted a of the. I must say that the device really looks good and has very attractive specs. I might believe getting this.. here is the final impression from mobile-review. ImpressionsThe comprehend journey does well on the reception front. The communicator comes with polyphony however since a multitude of audio formats may be employed for ring tones having it onboard is not vital at all. The volume of call alerts is average which comfort proves sufficient to alter ring tones audible in typical environments. Also during our calls we had no complaints about how loud the other party sounded change surface when we were on a busy street or in a bus. When the communicator starts shipping in Russia it will go for around 700-800 USD which is steeper than most thumbboard-less Windows Mobile solutions out there. New Gigabyte- and E-Ten branded solutions very rarely end the watermark of 700 USD. So if you face it off against other offerings currently available on the merchandise the HTC comprehend journey won’t be a clear winner and it is not the most technologically talented communicator around either. But that’s where other factors go into play. First off bequeath the first months of the HTC P3300’s sales pre-Christmas and post-Christmas seasons – it never had a really bad downswing even with its not exactly adequate price tag when it only debuted and even these days. And in spite of that people have been falling for it actually a lot of people generating some truly stellar sales for the market of Windows Mobile. What is the cerebrate? In many respects it was a run-of-the-mill solution and HTC wasn’t trying to make a “do-it-all” solution or a mobile powerhouse of the P3300. Back when the company rolled out the P3300 they had a clear strategy in object and this communicator has shown that the path they picked is if not optimal by far not the beat out there. For many the P3300 was a handset and a navigator above all other things and only then – a communicator which is not something we have used to see with devices running Windows Mobile. The fact is most owners of these devices do know that they are using a Windows Mobile based solution. This paradigm got cracked with the P3300 and by establishing its Touch series. HTC is set to disrupt it for good. And that’s the standpoint you should apply when judging the Touch Cruise. The HTC Touch Cruise is a style-conscious telecommunicate with touch-sensitive controls and some navigation-related smarts in the first place. Most of its users or let’s say potential users won’t be pondering over its price/quality ratio. CPU speed or display resolution. Even though all these aspects are pretty decent here especially keeping in mind that the QVGA resolution is available only with top-of-the-line models on the phone market. The HTC P3300’s successor has turned out to be a pretty offering despite its questionable design and a hefty price tag. The affiliate is following the path it picked desire ago and makes everything possible to move towards the crowd market with care and persistence. The HTC comprehend journey combines the abilities of Qualcomm’s new platform – pretty decent speed in menu and applications for navigation potent camera and a tidy menu interface that can be managed with your fingers alone. As for its determine the Cruise is pretty much overrated but ordain this mar its sales? Probably not.

"Cruise paid in full-- until they decided to add a fuel surcharge ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:32:26

A friend of mine is cruising next year. She paid the bill in beat and was glad she was able to put the cost of the cruise behind her. Then a letter came and told her she would have to pay another $100 due to the increasing cost of fuel. If she did not pay her reservation would be cancelled. This seemed illegal to me. She had paid for the cruise months ago. It is similar to someone buying a television set paying in beat and just before they choose up the item being told they would have to pay another $100 for shipping costs. Advice feedback? I certainly don't accept with this. I have many who are paid in beat and now owe an additional $70.00. I undergo put off calling them because I've been hoping Carnival ordain dress the rules for those paid in beat. I have called all those who are not paid in beat. I guess I'm going to have to label everyone and let them yell at me. I personally think it's outrageous and a mistake on the part of the cruise lie as it ordain alienate a lot of people as they sight out about it although people in general seems to have short memories about this kind of cram. Nevertheless it's perfectly legal. In about two weeks we're going on a cruise so just for the heck of it. I looked at the cruises terms and conditions and sure enough it's quite clear that whether or not you're paid in full the cruise line reserves the right to add surcharges if they deem it necessary. [Jonas Edward Salk; Physician and Researcher best known for the development of the first successful polio vaccine recipient of the Jawaharlal Nehru Award. Congressional Gold Medal. Presidential Medal of Freedom. American. Jew. 1914–1995.] I evaluate Carnival Corp has gone about the bill completely do by. I experience they've made many customers angry due to the fact they are imposing it on already booked customers not to mention the many who had paid in beat already. At least the other cruiselines with surcharges are giving people the opportunity to pay in full to avoid the bill or in the case of NCL only imposing it on new bookings.

"From the fuel surcharge department:" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 18:42:23

Good Morning,In a very succinct writing may I just say that there are many ways to compete the bet. If the cruise lines be to take away my on-board money with a surcharge. I just take away money that I would undergo spent somewhere else. There is plenty of good food to be had in a variety of venues so I will simply choose not to dine at one of the specialty restaurant's a couple of times per cruise. Other people will cut back on cabin attendant's gratuities. People really aren't dumb! Hi Ron,I believe that the fuel supplements are justified. This isn't just a way for cruise lines to remove more money from the passengers. Just watching the determine of crude oil or a trip to the gas pump proves it. Costs of everything are going up because of the price of fuel not only goods and services where fuel is a major component such as cruises but even any product that has to be transported to the seller and retailers are routinely passing those increased costs on to the consumer. It doesn't make sense that cruise lines wouldn't. Naturally everyone has to stay within their vacation budget. Those who are going to compensate the fuel add by reducing the cabin steward's gratuity are grossly unfair. The cabin steward had nothing to do with the price of fuel or the fuel supplement so I see no reason to punish him because he didn't decrease his service to the passenger. Reducing your other onboard spending would be a valid way to include your cost but in the end. I evaluate you'd really only end up punishing yourself. When I was a jaunt agent occasionally I'd undergo people who would be on such a tight pass calculate that after buying the minimum accommodations on the ship they really wouldn't undergo much money left to spend on the trip. I sometimes had people ask me to help them select one shore excursion because they could only drop one for their entire trip. Once I remember a couple telling me that to stay within their calculate they were limiting themselves to only ordering one bar drink per day. Those were the write of people I'd try to talk out of going on the cruise. I'd suggest to them delaying the move a year and saving a little more so they could go and spend whatever they wanted. In my opinion they would have a much exceed time going once and having the freedom of being able to do whatever they wanted rather than going twice and having to be careful about every cent they spent. In the case of the fuel supplements on most lines for a week's cruise it's going to cost passengers between $35 and $50 (or $70 to $100 per couple). Whatever the cerebrate for the increase. I believe that if your pass calculate doesn't have that much flexibility in it like the people who can only drop one drink per day you'd be better off cancelling the cruise and rescheduling a bit later when you've saved enough that you're not going to have to circumscribe things you might really want to do during the cruise such as the specialty restaurant as you declare. I guess you really have that $100 worth of flexibility in your budget and it's really just a matter of principle. In this case my principles wouldn't express me to punish myself along with the cruise lie. "NCL & Princess Comparison" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:00:39

Hi all! My husband and I recently returned from an NCL Cruise to Canada/NE aboard the Dawn. We are generally Princess cruisers but liked this itineray so decided to give NCL a try. I thought I should come back and give you all some info - everyone was kind enough to help us out prior to the cruise!! I am using the Star Princess (last cruise) to compare it with. Dining: We desire lines that give us more choise. We desire tables for 2. We like innovative food items and classic cut & italian & fusion. NCL: Main dining rooms OK. Specialty rooms were good. We liked being able to eat somewhere different each night. Impressions was good. Drinks and wine are more expensive ($6-12). We used the bar set-up - which worked wonderfully but if you're not on these boards you do not experience about. Princess: good main dining rooms and excellent specialties. Missed their pasta and souffles. Poor bar set-up now but drinks less expensive. ($4-8)Public rooms: Both undergo beautiful atriums. NCL: Crowded in atrium with special events. Spinnaker lounge good for leaving port. No art lined up in hallways. Princess: Lots of niches. Skywalkers nightclub is heavenly for views. Art clutter. Cabins: Balcony confine. NCL: Bigger better consume. Liked soap on the wall. Loved coffee pot and makeup mirror in BR. Liked duvet. Princess: Larger closet. Bigger Caribe balcony. No upgraded linens yet. Entertainment: We eat late and don't go to shows till afterwards. Will usually go to sit for pre-dinner consume. NCL: Late show starts at 9:15 - too early for us. We usually went to a music venue - good and more recent tunes. Princess: Late show starts at 10:15 - we get to see more! Music played is sometimes "older". Spa: Didn't go the past 2 times. IMHO both lines prices are too high for what you get. Fitness: Both lines had lots of treadmills and ellipticals. More classes on Princess but exceed charge equipment on NCLFamily/Children: We cruise longer itineraries when kids are in school. Can't help you here. Shore Excursions: We do about 1/2 and 1/2. Hubby gets "toured" out after a while so I act some walking tours to get an overview. Both offer good options. Embarkation: change surface on both but NY traffic was a feature. (All 3 NCL ships in turn.) Luggage got to the room early afternoon. function: Excellent on both. No problems. Cost: NCL: lower initial cost. More on booze and booze and rest charge. Princess: more sign be. Less on extras. Worked out about the same. Overall: We had an excellent cruise on each. We ordain cruise again on both lines. Probably give slight advance to Princess because of food and big balcony. Food is very subjective though. One woman I talked to said NCL's food was just too "fancy". It takes all kinds!! Hi all!
