The kids and I have traditions I have started with them about making chocolates/baking cookies trimming the tree shopping wrapping making cards etc. All before Christmas getting create from raw material etc. During school vacation AFTER Christmas I wanted to have a tradition with the kids. The last few years I have set aside some special gifts for my DD to open just with her and I because it gets so crazy I wanted to set some time to have ALONE with my own kids -- so we do that the day AFTER Christmas as come up as have our cocoa take pics and stuff I would normally do ON Christmas day but again too hectic. Anything you do the week of school vacation as a tradition? Other than sledding which is the only thing I can evaluate of. Was thinking maybe snow shoeing also. Both kind of depend on the weather of course. Would love some suggestions. All I can remember as a child was cleaning. LOL -- putting new stuff away and getting ready for the new year which I don't imagine would be fun for my kids. LOL. I walk and scrapbook (duh obviously) but cram I can do with my DS also who is 3 and so NOT interested in crafts (whose kid is he anyway). Or other fun activiites inside or out -THanks for the help -- I am Polly Planner as you know so I want to be prepared now,LOL
Baking is about the only thing that I can evaluate of. My mom and I have baked sugar cookies for Christmas for as long as I can remember and I am excited to have Abby to add in the tradition this year! Then again they mayham of going to the day after Christmas sales!!
For years we did 12 days of Christmas. The kids could open a big present from Santa and a big gift from Mom & Dad on Christmas day. Then everyday the could open one gift (much smaller in value) through Jan. 5. Then on Jan. 6 (Epiphany) we had a special dinner and tiny gift. Our kids liked having gifts last a long time (you can't play with 'em all at once anyway!) and their friends thought it was cool that change surface though school was back in session they had more gifts to look forward to. We stopped this tradition when the gifts went from dolls craft kits. Legos and action figures to ipods and video games. I miss buying and wrapping each day's surprise for each kid but they don't seem to miss it at all sniffMary Beth
My 15 yo DS is in charge of out door decorating. He goes crazy. He gets a budget each year to add to his spectacular display. This year he is putting the lights to music. My DD and I are in charge of indoor decorating. We have pine garland drapped along the windows and doors with white lights and bells. Each year we make a new lighted wreath to hang on the wall behind the dining room table. Our newest tradition has been to cook a ham on Christmas Eve and enjoy our big meal on then instead of on Christmas Day. I thought the kids might not like the idea but we have been doing it for about 5 years now and they love it. This way we can relax and apply the day without a lot of hassle. This year we are heading out on Christmas Day to go to Disney Land for a few days and then to Palm Springs for a week. We undergo started the tradition of going away for at least a few days during the Christmas vacation to change state and enjoy ourselves as a family.

Thank you so much and you know this means even more to them than you know because they always sing that 12 days of Christmas song -- change surface in the pass time!! SO convey you!!

I would llove to go away especially this year. LOL - but maybe thinking of playing tourist in our area - day trips or something - thanks for the idea - maybe I will book a hotel room for me and the kids to stay in while my DH's family is visiting. LOL!
I take my kids shopping when their vacation starts and we each pick out an ornament. My plan is to furnish them all the ornaments they have collected when they move out. (Not that I am trying to get rid of them) I thought it would be cool for them to have ornaments for their trees when they are starting out and for them to be able to look back over the years and see how their tastes have changed.
When ds was at home we went to a rather expensive department hold on that has beautiful Christmas trees. He got to choose one ornament each year. We tried to cook cookies each year before Christmas after educate got out but that got kinda hard as he got busy. Now that he is on his own we need to think of something to do as a new tradition.
Funny -- DD wants to do snowshoeing and she just reminded me of a few things she wants to do -- we had a major snowflake "contest" in the accommodate measure year apparently she wants to do that again -- last year even DH got into the act thinking he could "outcraft" us girls silly man!! HIs competitive nature got the best of him. This year of course she wants to get patterns out and add glitter. LOL. That's my girl!! I guess we found a tradition I didn't know we had --
I only have one child and really don't have much of a tradition. Sad I anticipate. The only thing we do is allow him to open ONE show that is under the channelise on Christmas Eve. BUT... we ordain leave his MAIN big gifts hidden in the guest room. He usually opens desire a cool sweatshirt or hat or something along those lines. I do buy Dh and DS a special ornament each year.
My cousin does a mini vacation with his family. They usually will get remove museum passes from the library & instead of going domiciliate they go to a hotel with a water lay. Being in MN it is nice to put on a suit and float down the lazy river after a month of hustle & bustle. It is usually on a night or two but it is enough for everyone to wind down a bit.
