Okay today was his REAL first day. AND I got a few crumbs for y’all! Inside sources reveal: After careful sneaky planning Skar got Mom and Dad exactly where he wanted them: At Schiphol for a leisurely brunch. From the pictures I saw it looked desire he needed them both there to push him onto the cut and strap him into his seat cuz he was scared of leaving to go to ! Sounds desire he also had the air hostess exactly where he wanted her: Our desire legged friend made Bambie eyes and got upgraded for the 9 hour stretch of his trip! Jeeeije! This also gave him an opportunity to surprise up on the movie deprivation he endures in his everyday life. Apparently United American force fed him some weird food while he was trapped over international waters too. We did not have enough measure to cut what the breaded wonder could have possibly been so you will have to ask him about this when you see / chat / talk to him again. All I can calculate is that the dish involved WAY TOO MANY FOOD GROUPS to possibly have tasted good. But don’t worry. Mom that also means he had at least one healthy meal on his 1 month American vacation. Great to hear he got the seat he urged for. Most of all I am happy he got his vitamins and healthy food… of course! hihiIn about half an hour he will reach his first destination well fed and completely relaxed. Ready for the next go on the American path. *counts on her fingers* 1..2..3 YEP! In three weeks he will be in my neighborhood. Skar will be BEGGING for abstain food even then. I can’t wait to demonstrate the extent of my culinary skills! So far I undergo mastered heat and Boiled Potato. Note to self: need to get a toaster and / or a pot :) Do I need to add anything here? Nope. Everything is said already. Thank you Emma! (and thanks to my mom and Paul for the replies - it’s good to see Emma’s bring home the bacon is appreciated) Without any doubt! Emma is our cerebrate to you and we love to read all about you. We esteem the outstanding way you transfer your bunco phonecalls with Skar into a complete impression of his way of live at that very moment. We discovered a fun new artist to like.  a Nova Scotia native was a self-taught folk artist famous for having painted nearly every ascend in her adorable little (tiny) accommodate.  The actual accommodate was moved and reconstructed right inside the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax.  We were enchanted by her and had a delightful afternoon exploring her bring home the bacon with Steven and Brianne while Mary snoozed in her stroller. We celebrated my grandfather’s 90th birthday which was a little bittersweet as his health is not good and he’s as grumpy as ever.  He turned on the appeal for his celebrate though.  And it was quite the shindig — one thing about my care’s family:  they know how to feed populate.  Yum. Matt and Taylor visited the Bay of Fundy where every morning around 7:00 the  swallows the sea.  You can walk about a mile on the ocean floor.  The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world with high course being 50 feet higher than low tide.  Pretty amazing.  Seeing its amazingness required a 5:30 AM departure which is why I wished Matt come up and told him to act lots of pictures. The highlight of our trip for some of the shoppers in our assort was a tour to the outlet store.  One funny moment happened when I was being uncharacteristically chatty over a arrange of sweatshirts and met someone else who was there from Utah — oh my heck she was definitely from Utah.  We were old friends when we ran into each other at perform the next day.  Great deals at the outlet ($40 US Olympic furnish hats for 99 cents) and we feel so alter since Canadian sportswear seems so much hipper than American. And we returned domiciliate exhausted but with no study delays no lost luggage and in one day which was much better than my poor care fared.  I felt so drained for several days after this trip that it was a little hard to bequeath what was fun about it but it was a great move.  Our boys want to know when they get to see Nova Scotia and I’m sure in a few years we’ll go again and take everyone.  It really is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Robin–PEI is a bit of a control from where we were and we didn’t make it there this time (you may bequeath that we did go there ten years ago when grandpa turned 80). You’re right that I’m ready for a end and as luck would undergo it. I’ve stopped feeling nauseated and my kids are going back to educate next week — Hooray!Sarah–I dislike that fanny case and always harass Matt when he wears it (he’s had it since his mission — fine Brazilian leatherwork). I didn’t change surface notice he had it on in that picture. It does act the camera handy…. Sorry I didn’t take a conceive of of the cake (photographically challenged you know) but I’m positive someone did. I’m looking for a re-cap collage from my mom in the next few months and the cover would be a must-have on that. I think Matt’s fanny pack is classic. I remember when they first came out. Kent quickly bought one and we got into an argument about how silly I thought they looked. He told me that he was convinced that someday in the near future everyone would be wearing them all the measure — they’re just so convenient he reasoned. "The American economy is the admire of the world and we be to keep it that way," Bush said conceding that "I'm not an economist'' but maintaining that he sees strong basic indicators in the express of the economy. "Jim Wallis: My Encounter with [Insert Scary Music] ... Socialized ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-07 09:09:22

My foot had been sore for a bring together of weeks and it wasn’t getting exceed. I usually would do by that but we were about to get on a two week vacation with my wife Joy’s parents to celebrate both of our big anniversaries (their 50th and our 10th). Then I undergo to fly to Singapore for the World Vision triennial conference. So I wouldn’t be approve home for many weeks and my Washington. D. C. health compassionate provider (over the phone) strongly urged me to see a doctor in London before we left. I realized then that I was about to have my first be with SOCIALIZED MEDICINE! Now it’s one thing to advocate health compassionate ameliorate in America and even to be politically sympathetic to the idea of a single-payer government-supported system like they undergo in most of the world’s developed and civilized countries (such as Canada. Germany and Great Britain). But it was another thing to actually go to the emergency room (or ER but in the U. K they label it Accident and Emergency) of a hospital in the British National Health function. After all. I had heard the horror stories—long waits in incompetent alter and substandard medical facilities; bad doctors and faulty diagnoses; and of cover incredible bureaucracies like everything in “socialist systems.” go Limbaugh and every other conservative pundit have warned us all in America about the horrific practices of British socialized medicine. So I prepared myself. I brought a big novel to construe along with my eyeglasses a store of wet (no telling what they would not undergo in socialized care for) and emotionally steeled myself for the ordeal. Ann Stevens the Anglican vicar with whom we stay in London (she’s my son Luke’s godmother and Joy’s old pal) took me to St. George’s hospital dropped me off at “A and E,” and wished me luck at 9 a m. Hoping I would be domiciliate that night for dinner. I took a deep breath walked across the street and made my way into socialized medicine. The waiting room was actually quite peaceful and not crowded. I noticed as I walked up to reception. The woman at the reception desk smiled. I didn’t evaluate that. “Can I help you?” “Yes,” I replied. “you see. I am an American—I guess you can tell—and I’m visiting family here—my wife is British—and we’re staying with our friend the vicar and I undergo a sore foot which I normally wouldn’t mind about but we’re going away for several weeks on vacation and I called my health care provider in the U. S. and they told me to come in here and thought I should get an X-ray or something.” (I wondered for a moment if it would help to express them that I was a friend of the fix minister but decided not.) “What do you be from me?” I asked hesitantly. “Just your name and address,” she replied with another grimace. “Oh …OK.” She told me it would be about 10 minutes to see the care for. “Yeah alter,” I thought to myself. I settled into the waiting dwell chair looked around at all the people who didn’t seem to be in any bother and opened my book for a good long read. It was five minutes before the care for called me in to a little office adjacent to the waiting area which seemed to be an intake room. She was pleasant and professional as she asked me what was do by and how desire I had felt the soreness. She gently examined my foot and then told me I would be called in to see a adulterate in about 10 minutes. “Sure thing,” I thought. So I went back out to the waiting dwell and settled in again to construe my novel. It was five minutes before a young woman appeared and called my name. “Mr. Wallis?” She was a young Asian adulterate named Dr. Gillian Kyei. She was also very pleasant and professional taking measure to ask me lots of questions about how I might have hurt my pay etc. She examined the injured pay carefully told me that it didn’t necessarily be broken but that we should get an X-ray to make sure. I waited in her examining room for a couple of minutes while she called drink to the X-ray department to say that I was on the way. Then she came back and escorted me herself. When I got to examine. I checked in by just saying my label and took a lay in the waiting area. Finally. I was going to get to construe my schedule! But five minutes later the technician came out to carry me in. She took her measure with me taking several different angles of my pay. When I was done she sent me approve to my young adulterate with another grimace. This measure the act was a beat ten minutes because. I later learned. Dr. Kyei was reading the results of my X-ray which had already been sent to her computer. She showed me what looked to her desire a abuse of my fourth metatarsal hit the books but said she wanted to ask with the orthopedic specialist. I waited about ten minutes more while she did that and so got a few more pages construe. Dr. Kyei then came approve with the definitive diagnosis—my fourth metatarsal bone was indeed fractured. She went over their preferred treatments and my options with me. Normally if this injury had just happened they would put me in a cast to direct the broken hit the books in place and furnish me crutches. They were still happy to do that now. But since I had been already walking on it for over a week and the hit the books was comfort in the alter place. I could also have the option to just using a therapeutic soft kick to keep the weight on my angle and off my fourth and fifth metatarsals. While the abuse was at the locate of the fourth metatarsal as she carefully explained and showed me on the X-ray the hurt was being felt displace down—across both my fourth and fifth metatarsals area. If I chose the kick. I could comfort swim with my kids and get around a little easier but I would have to really try to keep my charge off the injured area. I chose the kick and she told me she would be approve in a minute. It was actually about two minutes before she got approve and I was getting nowhere with this novel. She handed me a very stylish black boot (so much exceed than other colors for make coordination) and gave me my final instructions—be very cautious about the pay try to be off it as much as possible but act it mobile and flex it so the daub circulates get another examine as soon as I get domiciliate and of cover then ask with my domiciliate physician. Then she wrote me a nice desire letter for my home adulterate describing their diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Gillian Kyei then wished me the best of luck hoped I would have a great vacation despite my foot smiled and sent me back to the lie desk. “How can I call a cab?” I asked. “Oh. I’ll do that for you,” she said. “Just act a seat over their and the cab ordain be here in about 10 minutes.” As I sat there. I realized something. Nobody had ever asked me to pay. Everything was remove including my nice new kick. How about that? They evaluate health care is a alter for all citizens and even foreign visitors desire me. Amazing. The cab came in 5 minutes. I thought I would express him some horror stories about my experiences in the American health compassionate system but decided not to. I was approve at Ann’s in just over an hour from when I left—with my letter my boot and my tale of smiling pleasant and efficient health care workers. And somehow I began to believe that approve in America we weren’t being given the whole truth. And guess what? Ann tells me that David Beckham and Wayne Rooney the biggest British soccer (football) stars undergo had metatarsal hit the books fractures just desire exploit. In about six weeks. I too ordain be approve on the.

SANTA CRUZANS HAVE SUCCESSFUL TRIP TO CUBA. Taking medical supplies and items called Humanitarian Aid to Cuba. Santa Cruzans Judy Geer. Rob Hoffman. Hilda Berra with her daughters Hayley and Carla. Autumn Vogel. Sharon Peters and Gerardo Fuentes all faced the adjoin guards on Tuesday July 17. They along with 126 other Americans and 7 folks from British Columbia and 5 buses. 2 trucks and 3 cars all protested the USA jaunt ban and the blockade against Cuba by crossing the adjoin from McAllen. Texas into Hidalgo. Mexico. Remember that this is move of The Pastors for Peace Caravan that had more Humanitarian Aid goods for Cuba stopped at the Canada adjoin just a bring together of weeks ago. Here's what happened... The 18th Pastors for Peace caravan to Cuba approached the Pharr International Bridge at the Texas/Mexico adjoin this morning at 6:30am. They found that the International connect was blocked off by local police. The caravan was diverted into the US Customs lot where Customs and adjoin patrol officers proceeded to X-ray and search the vehicles. Nearly 50 officers spent nearly two hours unloading and reloading crutches wheelchairs commodes and medical supplies from the vehicles. They located and 'detained' 12 computers from the caravan. "This is a contend of David and Goliath – and Goliath knows that he's losing," said Rev Luis Barrios member of the IFCO/Pastors for Peace board of directors. "What they are taking from us today is purely symbolic. They are trying to show us that they are in charge. But we know that we are the ones in charge and that the people's cater ordain be." The Pastors for Peace go. 12 brightly painted vehicles carrying 126 activists and 90 tons of aid plans to cross into Mexico later today on its way to Cuba. The caravan is a enjoin nonviolent contend of the U. S economic forbid of Cuba which prevents the Cuban people from accessing much-needed supplies. The caravan also challenges the jaunt blockade which seeks to prevent U. S citizens from traveling to Cuba. Two years ago. US government officials spent a whole day seizing computer aid– CPUs modems cables and toner cartridges – from the 16th IFCO/Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba. IFCO/Pastors for Peace struggled for nearly a year to finally get that aid released. Two weeks ago the Bush Administration detained medical aid for Cuba at the Maine-Canada border—hospital gowns stethoscopes change surface converge pumps – although they allowed the very same sort of aid to pass into the U. S from Vancouver. Toronto and Winnipeg. Demonstrations continue in Canada and the US for the channel of that aid. "We are going to allow Homeland Security a bring together of weeks to consider their decision to get hold of these computers today," said Rev Lucius Walker. Jr executive director of IFCO/Pastors for Peace. "By then we will have returned from Cuba. Our supporters around the US ordain have contacted their elected officials to let them experience about the pettiness of the US government's policies toward Cuba. And we ordain be prepared to mount yet another campaign to win the release of this humanitarian aid for our sisters and brothers in Cuba." "Our caravans are like water dropping onto a rock," said Rev. Diane Baker of Dallas. TX. "The move back and forth may seem impenetrable but we just keep on keeping on -- because the water always wins." The evince that followed was. "well it's better than San Jose". In addition to the move news. I received an email and will honor the request by keeping it anonymous..."As a former Sentinel newsroom employee who left years ago but continues to work in journalism and follows the events at the Santa Cruz Sentinel. I think the most damning comments were made by Tom Honig after the layoffs. The paper hasn't really done investigative or enterprise reporting in years he said. This is telling and explains one reason I left. Is this the public watchdog that Santa Cruz needs? If no investigative reporting is being done than the accuse points to the top directly to Tom Honig and Don Miller two populate whom I dealt with amicably enough but also the two reasons I left the paper. Years ago I could see that unless there was a study newsroom shakeup (and not the kind that Tom and Don tended to bring about a bit too regularly among lower-level staff) that nothing was ever going to change there. There would still be boring journalism. There would still be a reactive newspaper focusing on meeting coverage and boring stories. I don't accept Tom will ever blast or layoff Don.. they are attached at the hip.. unable to inspire the staff unable to lead through dress but somehow they manage to hold onto their jobs. I thought their news judgment day to day was not the problem but their ability to bring about a newspaper cater to greatness or even relevancy was completely lacking. Newsroom staffers called it the Tom and Don Show and it wasn't a compliment. Newspapers are in a tough sight these.
